Howard County Executive Calvin Ball recently announced the appointment of Raúl Delerme as the new director of Recreation and Parks. With nearly 30 years of experience in the department, Delerme is well-equipped to take on the role. He has been involved in a number of projects, including the Howard County Five-Year Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan, and is currently working on a petanque court, horseshoe courts, a maintenance building, bathrooms, parking and what will become the largest playground in the county. Delerme has worked with a variety of groups and organizations, such as the Howard County Special Olympics, the Howard County Autism Society, the Maryland School for the Deaf and the county's school system.
He is taking over from John Byrd, who held the position for many years. The public is invited to attend a meeting at Howard County Recreation and Parks headquarters (7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, MD 21046) to meet Delerme and learn more about his plans for the department.
